Casa Verde Homes is delighted to present a rare opportunity to own a high spec and detached villa in the small settlement of Lombo Branco, on the Cabo Verdean island of Santo Antão.
With breathtaking views of the ocean and a spectacular mountain backdrop, this completely refurbished 2-bedroom villa can be your ideal “escape from it all” vacation home or, indeed a fine permanent residence. This is a great base from which to enjoy the hiking, relaxing, retreat, nature and natural swimming pools of arguably Cape Verde’s most beautiful, green and unspoilt island.
From the open-plan living area, balcony and sunny roof terrace, you will find yourself gazing at the ever-changing ocean. Your private garden is filled with fruit and nut trees, and within Lombo Branco you can help yourself to everything from papaya, mango, breadfruit and banana: Santo Antao is famed for its lush, fertile and tropical land.
Enjoying fresh mountain air and sea breezes year round, this villa maximises the throughflow of air and light. Detached but not isolated, this luxury villa has been completely remodelled and refurbished to the highest standards. It is a truly peaceful haven, a literal breath of fresh air from the more populated tourist areas on islands such as Sal and Boa Vista.
Arranged all on one level, the indoor living accommodation is accessed via steps, with a handrail, up to:
- Solid wooden doors opening into the light, airy open plan living and dining area, tiled throughout and with dramatic recessed lighting, and complete with curtains.
- Double glazed doors opening out to a suspended wrap around balcony, with stunning ocean views from this and the living room windows.
- Brand new white kitchen including induction hob and extractor fan, built in oven, wine or spice rack, a large range of eye level and floor level cupboard units and ample storage. There is space here to install a double American-style fridge freezer and a dishwasher, as required.
- High ceiling hallway, leading to
- (right) Large double bedroom with panoramic windows and shutters
- Completely refurbished first bathroom, with walk-in shower, washing machine, condenser dryer and high-quality fittings
- (centre) Second bathroom, also refurbished, with large walk-in shower
- (left) Twin bedroom with view over the private gardens
- External gardens wrap around the property, with plenty of space for an outside kitchen, swimming pool, even a conservatory, studio or other extra room, as required
- Currently open concrete stairs lead up to the roof terrace, which is divided into three areas: one large terrace above bedroom 1, large water tank above bathroom 1, and a second large terrace above bedroom 2. The two large terraces are bathed in sunshine from dawn until dusk, and could easily accommodate a hot tub, barbecue area, etc. Here you can sunbathe in complete privacy.
The villa is sold Freehold with no condo fees and very low council tax (IUP). With its large water tank and with the installation of solar panels/small wind turbine on the roof, could easily be off grid. There is the option to purchase the existing furniture, but there is a good furniture shop in Porto Novo with same-day delivery.
Considering the immaculate state of this property, this is a great price, and it could also be your golden ticket to Cabo Verdean residency. Please ask us for details.
Location
Lombo Branco is perched on a hillside, offering uninterrupted Atlantic Ocean views. Within 1.5 kilometres or 45 minutes’ walk; 10 minutes by aluguer – the communal, cheap transport that locals and tourists alike rely on – you can be relaxing in the stunning natural swimming pools of Sinagoga: a sleepy seaside village with mini markets, bars and a restaurant. For more facilities, you only need to head 5km to Ribeira Grande. The incredible scenery of the deep gorge valleys of Paul and Ribeiro Grande de Torres lie either side of Lombo Branco, and there are mountain walks direct from your doorstep.
A car or quad bike is highly recommended. Porto Novo is around 50 minutes’ drive away, and it is from this port that ferries run to and from neighbouring Sao Vicente four times a day. Sao Vicente has an international airport. Please note: the property is accessed via a steep, winding mountain road and has steps up to it, so may not be suitable for wheelchair users or those with accessibility needs.
Make no mistake, Lombo Branco is off the package holiday well-beaten track, and a far cry from the tourist islands. Santo Antão, with no airport, is a hidden, lush green gem that is fast becoming a sustainable ecotourism destination, as featured in the UK’s Financial Times, Conde Nast Traveller and Luxury Travel Advisor. Santo Antão is the westernmost and largest of the Cape Verdean islands; indeed the westernmost point of the continent of Africa. It’s dramatic cliffs and rugged coastline hide a beautiful set of tropical valleys, with rugged peaks soaring to 1,900m high.
